The AOUIT was established in 1981 as a separate legal entity, "A Grantor Trust". It was established for the benefit of AOA members, to reduce unemployment insurance costs for member auxiliaries. The governing body of this trust consists of five elected trustees who monitor investments and set policy for the trust and members. The daily operations of AOUIT business is conducted by an administrator employed by annual contract.

Unemployment benefit claims are handled by an unemployment management company. Currently, this company is, "The EGroup, LLC" of Lafayette CA. They are granted a three year service agreement which is negotiated by the Board of Trustees. AOUIT investment performance is analyzed and monitored by an independent investment advising company (a company that does not buy or sell investments). The current company is, "Berla Investment Consulting" of Walnut Creek, CA. The agreement for this service is also negotiated by the Board of Trustees on an annual basis. The Trustees meet four times a year with representatives from these groups to evaluate and monitor investments, claims and member concerns. All members of AOUIT are invited to attend an annual meeting held at the Auxiliary Organizations Association (AOA) annual conference. Board members are elected at this meeting and the business conducted during that year is summarized and reviewed for the members. AOUIT members are encouraged to attend Board meetings.
